Experimental & high-contrast calligraphy<\/strong><\/p>\n

The fascination of contrasts<\/strong><\/p>\n

After several years, I am returning to Mariastein Monastery<\/strong> \u2013 a place brimming with tranquility, focus and a unique atmosphere. For some, this weekend will be a little \u2018revival\u2019; for others, a new discovery.<\/strong> As soon as the monastery gates close behind us, everyday life remains outside. Silence spreads. Time slows down<\/strong>. And that is precisely where our journey into the world of experimental calligraphy<\/strong> begins.<\/p>\n

The finest lines meet powerful forms<\/strong>. Delicate movement<\/strong> encounters striking presence<\/strong>. With a fine nib and a Pilot Parallel Pen<\/strong>, we explore exciting contrasts and weave them into surprising letterforms<\/strong> full of expression and personality.<\/p>\n

The focus is on the expressive Bold Beauty typeface<\/strong>: a modern, dynamic block script<\/strong> consisting exclusively of lowercase letters that is wonderfully easy to write. It is precisely its simplicity that opens up countless possibilities for experimentation<\/strong>. Written with a Parallel Pen, a broad nib, automatic pen or flat brush<\/strong>, it constantly develops a new character.<\/p>\n

But it doesn\u2019t stop at the typeface alone.<\/p>\n

Layer by layer, vibrant compositions<\/strong> take shape: delicate fine-nib lines play around compact letterforms, backgrounds are painted<\/strong>, textures built up, contrasts deliberately employed. Playfully, works emerge that balance clarity<\/strong> and wildness, stillness and movement.<\/p>\n

Taking a break now and then is important, with a walk in nature or spending time in the monastery garden.<\/p>\n

This workshop is an invitation to find inspiration<\/strong>, try something new<\/strong> and immerse yourself fully in the creative process<\/strong>. Whether you\u2019re an experienced artist or simply curious to experiment, you\u2019ll be amazed at the expressive power<\/strong> of pen, ink and your own hands.<\/p>\n
